Today We are discussing About Cancer

I have heard a lot about cancer,  about the prevalent cases in Africa and all over the world and how it affects the family and friends of the infected.

The disease which is seemingly fatal and can also result from the transmission of STDs. It is seemingly a terminal disease although there's a possibility of survival. But what is Cancer? This disease is so popular yet so many know so little about it, all we know that it is disastrous to get affected with it and we try to prevent it, but getting more knowledge wouldn't hurt but improve your protection and understanding.

Cancer is a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body. That is, the cells begin to grow out of control, making hard for your body to function properly.

The world cancer is not a name for just one disease, it is a group name for over 200 different types of cancer (according to www.cancerresearchuk.org)

The cells in our bodies perform different function. Normally the cells in our bodies would divide in an orderly way, and die when they are damaged or worn out, giving rise to new cells which take their place. But, it results to cancer when these cells divide uncontrollably, causing problems to parts of the body where the cancer started, cancer can spread to other parts of the body. The spread is called metastasis.

Now, although the signs of breast cancer include searching for a lump (a growth or tumor) around the breast, but not all lumps are breast cancers. Infact, doctors have to take out a piece of the lump to confirm if it is cancer or not.

Doctors are still at a loss at what causes cancer. But Happily, not all cancers are terminal and various methods of treatments are available for cancer, with the most common being radiotherapy, surgery and chemotherapy.

Cancer is a very serious ailment that affects the individual not only physically, but emotionally and mentally, sometimes it's hard talking about it to family members and friends.

Although am not a cancer survivor, I believe that sharing this information with my readers will add even a tint of knowledge to them about this disease.

Knowing the types of cancer and the signs and symptoms they show is very important, as early diagnosis and treatment of any form of disease is vital for survival for the patient. Click here to know the 200 types of cancer.
