11 People Hospitalized After Cholera Outbreak Hits Anambra






Not more than 11 persons have been hospitalized in Inoma Community in Anambra West Local Government Area of the state following a cholera outbreak. 

According to the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Joseph Akabuike, in a statement issued in Awka said 

We have already deployed a rapid response team to assess reported cases, the team is led by the State Disease Surveillance Officer Adaora Ejikeme, accompanied by the State UNICEF Consultant, Didien Gbofemi. The team was tasked with preventing the spread as well as introducing measures at containing any replication. 

The 11 patients have been admitted to a health facility in the area. According to the Dr. Joseph Akabuike the 11 patients comprised of 5 boys and 6 girls within the age bracket of 1 - 10 years old. 

Parents have been asked to look after their kids for any symptoms related to 

Excessive stooling 
Vomiting 
Acute dehydration 
Malnutrition

They Inoma Health facility was also equipped with water guard, needles, syringes, and bags of water to handle the case. 

A preliminary report was later released by the Rapid Response Team which showed that the main source of drinking water for the community was a contaminated stream.
